Tuesday will be Shrove Tuesday - or Pancake Day.
Since Tuesday is busy for us, we will have our pancakes for dinner tomorrow, Monday.
Care to join in? Anthony ( youngest son) and Gerry ( dh) are making pancakes, to serve with fruit, ice cream and syrup. Hopefully, when I and the others get home from work, the pancakes will be ready!
This feasting is in preparation for the fast and abstinence of
Ash Wednesday and for Lent.
Lent is a time for reflection. A time to do things differently, to think more of spiritual matters, to pray, to attend an extra Mass or two, to ensure we make amends and attend Reconciliation. to re-orient ourselves spiritually.
Whether this be by "giving up" foods or activities or by adding new spiritual practices or reading into our days and weeks, is a matter of discussion here.

Some of us will be attending the Lenten programme at our parish.
Daily we will be reading the reflections from Lent and Easter Wisdom from Pope John Paul II. Well, I hope we will - I have been told that the book will arrive on February 23!
We will look at Lent as part of the liturgical year with activities from
100 Activities Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Anthony will probably have some fun ( and hopefully learning - although one can't be too sure with Anny!) with this book.
And there are more Lenten ideas here.

Drat! Patrick just fixed us a lovely brown sugar pancake dinner on Friday night! Always something good at your place.
By the way, House of Brede wasn EXCELLENT--I just kept seening Judi Dench. I was a little put out to find the movie had Diana Rigg!
Yum - brown sugar pancakes!
Mind you, I felt sick last niht after our "Shrove Monday" pancakes. I didn't get back from ok till late so we ended up eating at 9.15 pm - and then the sweetness of the icecream with the pancakes was too much for me! lol!
So glad to know you loved In This House of Brede - I've never seen the movie. :-(
What other Goddens do you like? I like Five for Sorrow,Ten for Joy; her autobiograhpies and her tale of conversion to Catholicism and my very first taste of Godden - An Episode of Sparrows. This was on my high school reading list and the story of the statue of Our Lady and its effect on the child was one of my first little calls to Catholicism ( that it took me another 25 years is a whole 'nother story! lol!).
It's the first I've read--I'll see which [if any] of the others our library or used bookstore has. I'd be really interested in the autobiographies. I'll keep in touch when I find one!
They'd make good Lent reading - and sorry about all the typos!
