Is my husband my neighbour?

A funny question to ask, I guess. But I have been pondering this quote from St Paul, in view of my vocation as a wife ~

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Do I really love my husband as myself - do I treat him as well as I may treat another?

It is often hardest to be loving and good natured and cheerful and helpful to those closest to us.

Christian marriage is seen by St Paul as paralleling the relationship between Christ and the Church.

I like this quote, on meshing feminism with being a wife - Making a conscious effort to infuse our marriages with the best we have to offer is the opposite of being a robot. It's life-affirming and marriage-affirming.
From The Good Wife.

I have some things to work on, as usual!

I liked the article, but had to laugh at the lipstick ;-) Thankfully dh fell in love with me when I rarely wore make-up so it's no big deal that I hardly ever wear it now. Still, he does appreciate if I stop what I'm doing when he comnes home, just as I appreciate when he seeks me out :-) It's definitely a two way street, sometimes I give more, others he does. Sometimes I stink at being a wife also - I try to remember that when he doesn't pick up his clothes, lol. Btw, I have a feeling that your dh adores you ;-)

I didn't read the article yet but I do subscribe to the idea that our dh's are our neighbors...the idea of really living the charity that begins at home - with our wills...I hope to get to the article soon...we leave tomorrow for a long weekend for dh's 40th birthday!

Oh, Maria, have a good time! Dh and I went out for diner and to the movies last night, before he goes away for wrok. It was cool - except that I felt like C#$% as I have the flu. :-(

Beate, I'm often not even home when dh gets home! And you are right - my dh is cute, he thinks I'm nice. :-) But I have higher expectations for myself, you know?
